RAMSEUR, NC - A Randolph County Sheriff's Deputy was taken to the hospital Friday night and another deputy was injured after being assaulted while responding to a disturbance call.

It happened around 4 p.m. Friday outside a home off Highway 49 in Ramseur.

Deputies say Clarence Rodney Harris took an 'edged weapon' and assaulted Lieutenant Kevin Walton by cutting and stabbing him. A brief chase followed and Deputies took Harris into custody without further incident.

Harris had already assaulted the 911 caller and retreated to a home on Crestwick Road according to a release. Deputies tried to take him into custody when he came outside the home.

Walton was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but later released. Detective Joshua Santiago was also injured but didn't require treatment.

Harris was arrested and charged with one count of Resisting Public Officer, one count of Assault With a Deadly Weapon/Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and one count of Assault With a Deadly Weapon/Intent To Kill. Harris was placed in the Randolph County Jail under a $1,001,000 secured bond.
