Bank Robbery Suspect Who Was Shot By Officer After Thomasville Stabbing Has Died

Police say Jerick Raheem Gray, of High Point, was shot by a Salisbury Police Officer after ending the chase at Anderson Hobby Shop in Thomasville, where he allegedly stabbed the shop owner who tried confronting him.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- A man accused of a Salisbury bank robbery which led officers on a chase to Thomasville on Thursday has died, police announced Friday.

Police say Jerick Raheem Gray, of High Point, was shot by a Salisbury police officer when he stopped his pickup truck at Anderson Hobby Shop off Business 85 in Thomasville.

Prior to the shooting, police say Gray stabbed the owner of the shop who tried to confront him. Police tried using a taser on Gray, which became ineffective. Gray was shot by the officer, and taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

So many things happening at once.

"I'm guessing it will probably make a good chapter in a book that I need to write at some point. It's a pretty spectacular sort of event, very dynamic," said Salisbury Police Chief, Jerry Stokes.

Police say a woman who is 8 months pregnant was also in the pickup truck. She was taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical condition. Police say she is considered to be a possible accomplice to the robbery, but may be a victim as well. The investigation is ongoing to find out what role she played.

“We are trying to determine if she was an accomplice, had any connection with Mr. Gray – or whether she was a victim of some sort of circumstance that had her there. We are still working on that investigation now,” said Stokes.

The officer who fired the shot yesterday is Christopher Schenk. He has been with the Salisbury Police Department since 2007, and has been a police officer for 27 years.

The shop owner who was stabbed is being treated at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
