Gunman Opens Fire at East Charlotte Elementary Drop-Off Line: Police

Lawrence Orr Elementary School in east Charlotte is currently on lockdown due to police activity in the area.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lawrence Orr Elementary School in east Charlotte is currently on lockdown after reports of shots being fired in the school's parking lot Monday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the suspect opened fire and that no one was hurt. A vehicle was hit with multiple shots during the incident. Officers believe the suspect and target knew each other and that the shooting was not random. CMPD has not identified a suspect or released any suspect information at this time.

No one was hurt during the shooting, according to CMPD.

Lawrence Orr Elementary principal Kimberly Vaught sent the following message to parents Monday morning:

"Good morning Lawrence Orr families, this is Principal Vaught with important information. Safety and security is important to me. This morning during arrival time we went on lockdown due to police activity on the street out in front of the school. Police are investigating reports of shots being fired. Everyone at Orr is safe and no one was injured. This did not involve anyone from the school. I will keep you updated with any further information when it becomes available. Thank you for your involvement with your child’s education at Orr."
