HIGH POINT, N.C. — UPDATE: After many interviews, High Point Police Detectives arrested two teenage suspects connected to shooting a 15-year-old.

Just before 6 p.m. on Monday, February 10, High Point Police responded to the 1200 block of Adams Street. When officers arrived they found the 15-year-old suspect suffering from a gunshot wound to his right hip area.

Antonio Davison saw the shooting happen and ran to help the injured teen.

"I laid him down, lifted his legs up and tried to stop the bleeding with a rope," Davison said. "He was basically calm but he was just in pain because he had a big hole in his leg."

Davison said the ambulance and officers arrived about five minutes after she drive-by shooting.

The victim told police that he and two other kids were walking home from Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church when a black “Benz” drove past, turned around and a young Hispanic male rolled down the front passenger window and the victims heard two shots. One victim fell to the ground, got back up and began running. The other two victims ran in different directions and were not struck by gunfire.

"It was a bunch of kids walking together, so it could have been any one of the kids getting shot," Davison explained. "Luckily it was only one because I heard about 7 shots."

Investigators located two 7.62 casings and blood on the sidewalk. These casings are consistent with the AK and SKS style platform rifles. The shooting victim stated that he did not know why he was shot or why anyone would want to cause harm to him.

High Point Police Detectives arrested two suspects in this case on Friday, February 14. 19-year-old Hugo L Martinez-Mena was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. Mena was arrested and placed in the Guilford County in High Point Jail under a $2 million secured bond.

The second arrest is of a 15-year-old male juvenile who was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. Due to his age, a secure custody order was approved by the juvenile court counselor and he was transported to the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center.

The 15-year-old juvenile has previous arrests with the High Point Police Department that include but are not limited to being in possession of a weapon (knife) on a school campus in 2017, he also is a validated gang member.

The 15-year-old shot in the hip was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and it was determined that the bullet bypassed all arteries and bone and no surgery was needed. He continues to improve each day.

Davison said he saw the victim walking on Monday, one week after the shooting.

"He's doing fine," Davison explained. "He was walking down and I asked him how he was doing, he said he was good and gave me a hug."

The High Point Police Department remains diligent and focused on identifying those persons involved in criminal activity in High Point and holding them and their associates responsible for their actions.
