Mistrial In Sexual Abuse Case Against Former Guilford County Teacher

GREENSBORO - A prosecutor in the case against Randall "Randy" Lee Clawson said a mistrial was declared due to deadlock within the jury.

GREENSBORO - A prosecutor in the case against Randall "Randy" Lee Clawson said a mistrial was declared due to deadlock within the jury Friday morning.

Prosecutor Kelly Thompson said jurors voted 11-1 that Clawson was guilty of sexually abusing a former student. The lone dissenting juror was convinced there was a "witch hunt against teachers."

Clawson is a former Lindley Park Elementary school teacher who faces four counts each of first-degree sexual offense with a child, sexual activity with a student by a teacher, indecent liberties with a child and three counts of first-degree kidnapping.

Allegations of sexual abuse came out in 2014. The student testified that he was sexually abused by Clawson multiple times while attending Lindley Elementary.

During the 2-week trial, Clawson testified that he was not guilty of sexual abuse.

Prosecutors said they plan to bring the same charges against Clawson in the near future.
