Deputies were called to assist the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) with an assault investigation on Mt. Zion Church Road in Thomasville Friday around 2 a.m.

Investigators say they found a person who had been dragged down the road by a 4-door sedan. Three men were in the car when it happened, officers said. The person then was run over by the car.

The person who was dragged and run over is at a local hospital in critical condition, with major head trauma, Davidson County sheriff says.

Detectives are withholding the person's identity at this time.

Investigators identified the driver and front seat passenger of the sedan as Creedence Smith, 30, of Thomasville, and David Brewer, 39, of High Point.
