Person Believed To Have Mental Illness Detained After Brief Standoff: Greensboro Police

Officers reported to 2815 Stratford Drive at 7:56 a.m. in response to claims to gunshots being heard from inside the home.

GREENSBORO, NC (WFMY) -- A person believed to be suffering from a mental illness had a brief standoff with police this morning according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Officers reported to 2815 Stratford Drive at 7:56 a.m. in response to claims to gunshots being heard from inside the home.

Upon arriving, shots were fired at the officers. The officers were able to take cover and establish communication with the suspect determining they may be suffering from a mental illness.

Police were able to talk the suspect into surrendering peacefully and took them to a local facility for a mental health evaluation.

Police are not releasing the same of the suspect at this time, the incident is still under investigation.
