Police arrested 36-year-old Richard Denny Nofsinger, Jr. Tuesday. He's charged with first degree murder for death of Alyssa Kenny and capital murder for Kenny's daughter, Anastasia Alley.

"In this little town you just don't hear stuff like that happening," explains Stevie Barr.

"4437 we all heard about it and of course everyone is really uneasy because hadn't caught anybody at that time so a lot of police was in town going through trash cans doll up and down the sidewalk 44:47"

Barr runs Barr's Fiddle Shop downtown.

He's lived in Galax all his life and says he remembers the victims.

They used to walk by his store.

He says he's seen less people outside since their murders.

"I think it put a lot of fear in people, not knowing,"

But with a suspect now in custody, he hopes the town can heal.

"We're not very much on violence around here so it's been kind of hard. Knowing that somebody could do something like that."

Police have not released a motive for the murders. The Police Department says this is still an active investigation.
