Police say 17-year-old shot near Dudley High School

Greensboro police say the shooting did not happen on school property.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police say a 17-year-old male was found shot near Dudley High School Thursday morning, prompting a shelter-in-place for three schools in the area.

Police say officers responded to a "discharge of firearm call" Thursday at 8:54 a.m. on the 1100 block of Willow Road, near Dudley High School in Greensboro. Police say the teen was found with a gunshot wound on the campus and help was called. Police say the shooting did not happen on school grounds. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police canvassed the neighborhood for clues during the investigation.

They cannot say if the victim is a student at one of the nearby schools.

Guilford County Schools says three schools sheltered in place as police investigated: Dudley High School, The Academy at Lincoln, and Bluford Elementary which has since been lifted.

The precaution is different from a school lockdown. While schools shelter in place -- the building's exit doors are locked as activity inside the schools continues as normal.
