Brothers arrested after four-hour standoff on Wayside Drive in Greensboro

Evan Parrish and Mark Parrish barricaded themselves in their home with a hostage for nearly four hours.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two brothers were arrested after a standoff with Greensboro police for nearly four hours Saturday.

Officers arrived at the 1400 block of Wayside Drive for brothers, Evan Dale Parrish, 55, and Mark Allen Parrish, 52, at 3 p.m. to serve multiple warrants.

When police arrived at the home, both men barricaded themselves inside the home and took a hostage.

Officers attempted negotiations, and the Special Response and Negotiations Team also arrived at the scene.

Additionally, officers blocked off Wayside Drive between Phillips Avenue and Ashmore Drive due to the standoff.

During the nearly four-hour standoff, police said Evan Parrish made multiple statements that he was going to shove a gun down the hostage's throat and kill her. Officers reported hearing multiple shots fired inside the home.

Living directly across from where the standoff happened, Krystal Blackstock said she was nervous.

“The police come tapping on my window because I ran back in and he’s like your neighbors are armed. I’m like what’s happening?” Blackstock said.

After nearly four hours of negotiations, officers took both men into custody and collected the hostage.

The shots fired were directed at the hostage but, luckily, missed.

“I was terrified when I saw and heard the explosions because it was like bombs going off over there and we were looking out the windows screaming, and I’m telling them to go back in the kitchen and get on the floor,” Blackstock explained.
