HIGH POINT, NC -- More than 33,000 people in Guilford County live below the federal poverty line and don't qualify for insurance. Many of them have to make the decision between buying food and buying medicine. But the MedAssist Mobile Pharmacy travels around the state to help.
Today the pharmacy will make a stop in High Point at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on 279 Eastchester Drive. You can stop by between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for free over-the-counter medicine, health screenings, education and medicine cabinet supplies. The resources are free to any low-income individual and you do not need to show ID.
The Guilford County Health Department is offering free flu shots for people with Medicare, Medicaid, United Healthcare or BlueCross BlueShield.
Students and staff at High Point University's Pharmacy School will be on hand to help people select what medicine they need and to answer any questions. Last year the pharmacy helped close to 450 people in High Point and dispinsed more than $1,000,000 in free medication.
