Nope, this isn't some special one-day doodle. The Google logo is making a permanent change.

When you visit the main Google search page, you'll notice an interactive that shows the logo morph into its newest form. The company says the change reflects the tech giant's shift beyond the traditional Web browser, reads a company statement.

"Once upon a time, Google was one destination that you reached from one device: a desktop PC," reads the statement from Tamar Yehoshua, Google's vice president of product management, and director of user experience, Bobby Nath. "These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices—sometimes all in a single day."

Google says it's making subtle changes to create a more colorful experience, including a multi-colored mic for voice commands and a four-color "G" logo which replaces the lowercase "g" logo.

The logo is one in a series of key changes for Google. Last month, co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page announced the creation of a new holding company, Alphabet, which will house Google as well as several other projects including Nest, Calico and broadband initiative Fiber.

Brin and Page will run Alphabet, while Sundar Pichai will serve as the CEO of Google, which will manage Chrome, Android, Maps and other Google-related services.

In changing its iconic logo, Google joins Yahoo, Twitter, Microsoft and eBay, which have done the same.
