THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2020

2 p.m. -- NCDHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen is giving an update on COVID-19 in the state.

85,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses will be sent out in late December. North Carolina hospital workers who work closely with coronavirus patients will get the first doses, Cohen said.

After the first week of distribution, Cohen said they expect another vaccine (possibly Moderna) will become available, and state leaders will work to distribute what's available to those most at risk.

Cohen said COVID-19 vaccines will be prioritized in the following order:

1. Hospital staff working closely with COVID-19 patients

2. Long-term care residents and staff

3. Adults with two or more chronic conditions

12 p.m. -- New COVID cases in North Carolina set a new record by a long shot on Thursday, with more than 5,600 new cases. It's not surprising, as the best time to get tested for accuracy is 5-7 days after possible exposure. Thursday marks seven days since Thanksgiving.

Hospitalizations also reached another record Thursday with more than 2,100 new patients. It's no longer a consecutive record, as NCDHHS updated some of the numbers from previous days.

Cone Health reported its highest hospitalization volume as of Thursday morning with 161 COVID patients, 30 of whom are in the ICU.

10 a.m. -- Dr. Christopher Ohl, infectious disease expert with Wake Forest Baptist Health, will give an update on COVID-19 trends in the Triad and the rise in hospitalizations.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2020

12:30 p.m. - North Carolina had a fifth-straight day of record-high hospitalizations on Wednesday (2039). It was the third-highest day for new cases, with nearly 4,200 newly confirmed COVID cases. The percent positive went up to 11.4% - the highest it's been since the July 6 peak, and also higher than the national average.

4:30 a.m. - Pfizer announced early Wednesday morning it has received approval for emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine in Britain.

FACTS NOT FEAR

Remember facts, not fear when talking about the coronavirus. You should take the safety measures recommended by health leaders to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Abide by the three W's. That means wearing a mask, washing your hands, and waiting at least six feet from another person. You also want to avoid touching your face and make sure to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw it away.
