2 in Custody After BB Gun, Knife Found in Car at McMichael High School

Two McMichael High School students are in custody after a gun and knife were found on campus.

MAYODAN, NC (WFMY) - Two McMichael High School students were taken into custody Wednesday morning after Rockingham County deputies say one had a BB gun in his car in the school's parking lot.

Nicholas Kiser, 19, was charged with bringing Weapons On Campus/Educational Property.

Deputies found the gun in the floorboard of Kiser's car. A release says Kiser and another student, a juvenile, had the gun out and were handling it before they arrived.

Sheriff Sam Page with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office says thankfully, someone on-campus noticed what was happening and reported it.

“Today it ended in a good situation. No one was hurt, but we should always continue to think about safety and security and if you see something that’s not right, call and let somebody know," said Sheriff Page.

Parents say it's still a concerning situation. “I think there’s a lot that needs to be done to put a stop to this so that we don’t hear about the shootings. And even a BB Gun. A BB gun could hurt somebody. It could put somebodies eye out," says Evelyn Grace, who has a daughter at a Rockingham County School.

Kiser also had a pocket knife according to the sheriff's office. He was put in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under a $10,000 secured bond. Kiser has a July 26 court date.

The juvenile was taken into custody. Their name isn't being released by the sheriff's office.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown.
