Dangerous Heat Is Back, Stay Hydrated!

The line between unpleasant and dangerous is very thin when it comes to summer weather, stay hydrated.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's going to get hot this weekend. And that heat can be dangerous. It only takes an internal temperature of over 104 degrees to be fatal. Here are some things you need to know about keeping cool.

Grab a large bottle of water in the morning and finish it before the end of the day.

And if plain water isn't appealing, try adding some 100% fruit juice or chop up some fruit to flavor it without adding cane sugar. And speaking of fruit, try eating strawberries or watermelon, or veggies like lettuce, and spinach -- they're all 90% water.

And if you're feeling weak, dizzy or nauseous, get into some air conditioning, take a swim, or take a cold bath or shower.

But if you or someone you know is passing out, dealing with severe behavior changes like confusion, or is no longer sweating in the heat, they may be suffering from heat stroke. That's when it's time to call 911.
