Most people have a Facebook account. It's a great way to stay in contact with old friends or family.

In September, the company said it averaged 1.37 billion daily active users. Honda also knows the vast majority of people are on Facebook. So, it's using one of Facebook's tools to find owners with defective Takata airbags.

According to Reuters, the custom audiences tool lets advertisers reach a specific list of users. It'll match email addresses associated with recalled vehicle ID numbers to Facebook users. This is the list of Honda Vehicles with defective airbags.

If your car is on this list and you're on Facebook, there's a chance you could be hearing from the car company.

The Takata airbag inflators have been linked to 18 deaths worldwide. Reuters stated that Honda's vehicles account for all but one of them.

Plenty of other companies are affected.

NHTSA put together a list of all the vehicles with defective Takata airbags.

Right now, 34 million vehicles are under recall for about 46 million defective air bags. More are expected to be added to that list by 2019.
