GREENSBORO, North Carolina — Many people are waiting for their tax return this year. The IRS says the average refund so far this year is about $2,640. But for many, that bill is turning into a refund.

However, for those who are getting a refund, they're seeing smaller ones. The average refund through February 15 was 16-percent smaller than it was this time last year. The amount of people getting refunds is down 26-percent as well.

So how do you avoid getting burned next year? Take a close look at your withholdings. If you don't withhold enough you're setting yourself up for another headache next year.
