That Starbucks Coupon You Shared On Facebook … it's NOT Real

Last month, it was a Kohl's coupon. Today it is a Starbucks' coupon. Next week? Who knows? So, here's how you can tell if a coupon is legit or not on Facebook.

GREENSBORO, NC -- Here we go again. The latest coupon scheme being shared on Facebook is a $50 Starbucks gift voucher. Last month, it was a Kohl's coupon. Today it is a Starbucks' coupon. Next week? Who knows? So, here's how you can tell if a coupon is legit or not on Facebook.

First, check the website it's being shared from. In this case, it's starbucks.com-free1.com. Nope. While it looks like its from Starbucks' website ... it's not. To be on Starbucks' website, the dash should be a slash. The dash gives this link, an entirely different domain name.

The next red flag, the word anniversary is misspelled. That 'e' should be an 'a.' Starbucks wouldn't make that rookie spelling mistake, a schemer would.

Also, the anniversary is wrong. Google Starbucks. It opened in March of 1971. That's 45 years ago, not 44.

And finally, if Starbucks really was giving away $50 gift cards to anyone sharing a post, they'd post the contest on their verified Facebook page. They didn't.

Side note, you can tell it's verified by hovering your mouse over the blue check mark and a black box pops up saying yes this page is verified.
