They Paid In Full. The Roofer Never Came Back.

It's more than disappointing for these families: They claim to have put down hundreds of dollars to have a roof fixed and the company goes silent.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Buyer beware: A handful of families in Pasco County say they paid a lot of money to get their roof fixed, but no work was ever done.

“This entire roof was to be replaced,” Ricardo Burgos said. He and his wife, Nidia, say that was the plan when they hired Andrews Roofing Services.

“I gave him a $500 deposit,” Burgos said. And the contract was signed for work to start on Feb. 17.

“He gave us a pretty great deal,” he said. “And I’m just sad it didn’t go that way.”

When the day came and went, nobody ever showed up to work on the family's roof. He picked up on the phone to try and get in touch with the owner.

“The calls went straight to voicemail. I was afraid to tell my wife, 'I'm afraid we got conned,'" Burgos said.

But the owner responded to text messages. Craig Andrews promised he was on his way, day after day.

It was the same type of text messages Mirjana Subotic received, promises that Andrews would be on his way soon to fix her roof.

“I paid him $800. He insisted on cash so I gave him the cash,” Subotic said. “I asked him for a receipt and he said he’d email me.

"Nothing after that.”

But she says once he had cash in hand, she never saw him again.

“After that, he wouldn't even answer his phone. He made about 4 appointments with me and never showed up,” Subotic said.

So we tried to make an appointment with him, too. We called him to see what was going on. His phone went straight to voicemail and his voicemail box was full. We headed to the address listed under his company’s name.

At that address, we found a man who said he was a former family member and has been looking for Andrews himself. He's heard that clients aren't too happy with him.

Those unhappy clients are just hoping somebody will find Craig, not to get their roofs fixed, but just to have their money back.

“You took advantage of a family and that's not fair at all. You know, $500, we scrounge for those funds,” Burgos said.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says they did receive a complaint about Andrews -- but only one. If you’d like to file a complaint, you can do so simply by reaching out to the sheriff's office's crime tip line at 1-800-706-2488.

You can also file a complaint with almost any state agency if you are having a problem with a company.
