Trading in the car one you have to knock the new car price down is an easy option, after all, it is one stop shopping and you don't have to deal with meeting people to test drive your car!

Bottom line, you want to make it look as good as possible and Consumer Reports looked at the easiest ways to get the most for you money.

The simplest way to get your car ready? A professional DETAILING -- it's going to run you $150 to $250.

But if you don't want to cut into your profits you can do it yourself.

Start with your exterior. Wash the body with some car detergent and the wheels with wheel cleaning product. Use a microfiber cloth and liquid wax to wax the car.

And you should also clean your engine. A household cleaner and a rag can do a lot to help make the engine look great. But don't use a hard spray or an open hose. Spray the plastic covers and sheet metal with the cleaner and wipe it with a wet towel.

Finally take a vacuum and go through your interior and wipe down your surfaces and replace those worn-out mats.

Now don't just make the car look good -- you also have to get those nagging repairs done to get the most bang for your buck.
