You Should Probably Be Haggling With Your Cable And Your Credit Card Company

A new study says haggling over your cable bill is definitely worth it.

Most of us probably aren't well versed in the art of haggling. Most of the stores and restaurants we visit have prices set by a corporate company and there's no room for debate. But when it comes to your cable bundle, you might want to think twice about that.

Consumer Reports surveyed 176,000 people on their home internet, tv, and telephone service providers. 70% said they attempted to negotiate a better deal and 80% of that group got some kind of bonus.

32% got a new promotional rate. 24% saw their bills cut up to $50 a month. 14% received additional premium channels and 7% got more than $50 shaved off of their monthly bill.

One of the possible reasons for this success is the streaming service industry's competition. Cable companies know they have to compete with a growing number of streaming options. That might be why they're a lot more willing to negotiate over the price.

And they're not the only people you could talk to about lowering your bill. A recent creditcards.com survey showed that you can save on credit card bill just by asking a few questions. 84% of people who asked for a higher credit limit got it. 84% got a late fee waived and 70% got their annual fee waived or lowered.
