South Beats North 9-5 in South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Greensboro

Greensboro is hosting the South Atlantic League All-Star Game for the first time in 10 years.

GREENSBORO (WFMY) - The South Division defeated the North Division in the 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Greensboro.

Asheville Tourists second baseman Bret Boswell had three hits, a home run, and three RBI to lead the South to victory. Greensboro Grasshoppers shortstop Jose Devers had a hit and drove in a run.

Fans came from all over to see some of the future stars of Major League Baseball in action. The guest list included NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Dale Jarrett, who's son Zach played for the North team.

Below, you'll find interesting facts about the South Atlantic League All-Star Game:

  • This was the 59th annual SAL All-Star Game
  • This was the first time the Greensboro Grasshoppers hosted the game since 2008. That game featured current big-league stars Madison Bumgarner, Freddie Freeman, Jonathan Lucroy and Jason Heyward.
  • Grasshoppers players selected as All-Stars for the North Division include Pitcher Ryan Lillie, first baseman Lazaro Alonso, outfielder Jhonny Santos and shortstop José Devers. Alonso sat the game out due to an injury. Greensboro manager Todd Pratt was the North Division manager.
