GREENSBORO, NC - Just in time for the holidays, 20 Habitat Greensboro homeowners celebrated paying off their mortgages by shredding them.

Reginald Jones couldn't be more thrilled. He said when he received the note from Habitat saying his house was paid off, it made him so happy that he wanted to run outside and touch the sky.

Reginald was one of 20 homeowners who paid off their mortgages this year.

Habitat Greensboro is proud to say its helped 490 Greensboro families achieve home ownership.

Bank of America is a longtime Habitat For Humanity supporter, and to celebrate the milestone for these new home owners, it made a $2,000 donations to Habitat Greensboro.

“Our mortgage burning (or shredding) events are some of the most gratifying events we do each year because they show what our homeowners can achieve through hard work and persistence,” Habitat Greensboro CEO Maria Hanlin said.

"It is our distinct honor to work with all of our homeowners, and we’re proud to say we have helped 490 Greensboro families achieve home ownership. Today, we are thrilled to recognize these 20 families that have achieved ‘true homeownership’ and no longer have to worry about making a mortgage payment. These homeowners inspire us with their commitment, dedication, courage and faith - what a wonderful accomplishment for all of them!"

“We thank Bank of America for again choosing to support our homeowners in this meaningful manner in celebration of their success in 2018. We are very appreciative of Bank of America’s longtime support of Habitat Greensboro and our mission to provide affordable housing.”
