ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Family, and friends along with the Rockingham County School community are mourning the loss of one of their own after a student was killed in a car crash.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), the crash occurred Thursday on Dibrell Road near N.C. Highway 700 around 5:14 p.m.

Trevor Wall,17, ran off the roadway to the right, overcorrected his turn then went off the roadway to the right again. The car went down an embankment and hit a tree, NCSHP says.

Wall was ejected from the car during the crash and died at the scene.

According to Rockingham County Schools, Wall was an 11th grader at Rockingham Early College High.

The Early College will have their district crisis team counselors on hand to help support grieving students.

Wall's family is planning his funeral and his mother Jennifer Wall says she is heartbroken.

"A mother should never have to bury their child," said Wall.

She said Trevor was the socialite in the family. He was funny and was an avid Eagle Scout who was just finishing up his project.

"Trevor was larger than life, he was such an outspoken person, he never met a stranger. He loved people, he loved animals, he loved food and he loved shoes," added Wall.

According to the NCSHP, Trevor Wall was not wearing a seat belt and speed was a contributing factor.

"It was senseless, he should not have been driving, he should have worn his seat belt and he shouldn't have been speeding," said Wall.

She hopes other teens would learn a lesson from the story of her son's tragic death.

"If there's anything good that comes out of it, I hope that other young people will learn that you're not invincible. You can die in an instant and then you leave behind all these broken hearts that will never ever mend. I will never get over this."

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 25, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Daves officiating. The burial will follow the service at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his home.
