ASHEBORO, N.C. – Katie Bunch, a beloved 10th grade teacher at Asheboro high School, who had ovarian cancer has died.
She died Sunday, December, 10, according to her church Pastor, Linda Ferguson. Bunch was diagnosed Stage 4 in 2016.
Bunch was remembered by her loved ones and the community at a celebration of life service on Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Asheboro, her home church.
In October, the church hosted a benefit and fundraiser to help Bunch and her family pay for the hefty medical expenses.
Her best friend Lindsay Cox described her as a dedicated member of the community.
“She’s an amazing teacher, she’s always the first one to step up and volunteer to help any organization, and any club, anyone really. She’s got a really big heart and people see that because she’s a genuine person,” Cox says about her best friend since they were 8 years old.
To continue that legacy, the family has started a memorial scholarship called the Katie Bunch Servant Leader Scholarship that will go to the Asheboro City Schools Education Foundation.
