Blue Cross/Blue Shield Investing $159,000 to Battle School Lunch Debt in Piedmont

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is making an investment to help hungry children in the Piedmont by decreasing school lunch debt.

The organization is giving $159,000 toward school lunch debt in five Piedmont counties. The money will go towards helping children in Alamance, Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham and Davidson counties according to a release.

The Greensboro-High Point area was ranked among the areas with the worst food hardships in the nation in 2015. A gallop poll ranked Greensboro-High Point ninth with a food hardship rate of 22.2. It ranked number one for people who had difficulties getting food, based on a percentage of the total population.

Working to end childhood hunger is the first step toward building stronger, healthier communities and addressing hunger throughout the state.” said Blue Cross NC Director of Community Relations Cheryl Parquet.
