Taylor Heinicke will start at quarterback in place of Cam Newton for the Carolina Panthers Sunday in their home finale against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Panthers website confirmed the move Wednesday afternoon. Newton has dealt with shoulder pain for much of the season.
Newton has started all 14 games this season, throwing for 3,395 yards with 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Newton struggled in Monday's loss to the Saints, throwing for just 131 yards on 16 completions.
Heinicke was undrafted out of Old Dominion in 2015 and has replaced Newton in hail mary situations four times this season.
The Panthers have dropped six games in a row after starting 6-2.
