"Dawson's Creek" turns Durham into Boston

The series has filmed at locations in and around Duke University since July.

Adding a Boston Herald newspaper rack and artificial snow, "Dawson's Creek" turned Durham's Main Street into downtown Boston for three nights. The WB's teen soap opera set in Massachusetts filmed an episode on the stretch featuring Joey Potter, played by actress Katie Holmes. The series has filmed at locations in and around Duke University since July. "Dawson's Creek," in its fifth season on The WB, has followed its main characters as they left Capeside to start college. Duke's campus is the setting for Worthington, a fictitious New England university where Joey is a freshman. Reyn Bowman, president and CEO of the Durham Convention amp; Visitors Bureau, said the show is estimated to pump $4.3 million to $4.8 million into the local economy during the filming of 22 episodes. Most of the series is still filmed at the soundstages in Wilmington, where production has been based since 1997.
