STOKES COUNTY, N.C. -- Stokes County 911 says 23 fire departments are on the scene of a large fire in the county.

The fire started shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday on Piney Grove Church Road. Investigators say the fire started in one of the mill buildings, at Bill Hanks Lumber Company, while employees were working and all were able to get out okay. It took about five hours to get the fire under control. Because of the danger, firefighters attack the fire from the outside. No crews were sent inside.

They used thermal imaging cameras to find and put out hot spots.

There is a significant loss to the structure, investigators confirm.
