WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Firefighters battled a fire at a vacant building in Winston-Salem.

Fire crews said it was a two-alarm fire at the corner or 12th Street and Highland Avenue. Heavy fire and smoke was seen in the area. Firefighters were waiting for a structural engineer to check the safety of the inside of the building before investigating any further.

According to a tweet on Twitter, Winston-Salem Fire said it’s at the site of the former Brown Elementary school. The fire closed many roads in the areas.
