WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A freak accident in Winston-Salem has led to the death of a woman.
Winston-Salem Police say 66-year-old, Linda Whitaker Idol was walking when an unoccupied car rolled backwards and struck her.
The car model that hit her was a 2013 Kia Rio.
The accident happened on Olde Vineyard Court. Idol is listed as living on that same street.
Police say the preliminary investigation revealed the Kia Rio, with a manual drive transmission, was parked and unoccupied when it began to roll backwards.
Idol was pronounced dead on scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
