Memorial Day Grilling Safety Tips

It's time to talk grilling tips for Memorial Day. WFMY News 2's Kandace Redd spent the morning with Longhorn Steakhouse and has more on how you can have a safe holiday.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Before you start cooking, you want to make sure the grill is clean. If you use a gas grill, use soapy water to spray on valves to make sure there's no leak.

Put the grill on even ground, away from debris and structures. Make sure its about 10 feet from your home, especially if you have siding.

If you use charcoal, don't put too much starter fluid on. Lighting a gas grill also requires care. Open your grill, turn the gas on and then light it.

Since the grill is hot, stay close and keep kids and pets back. If a fire breaks out, call 911 for help and keep people even farther back.

Once you're complete, let the grill cool off, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
