GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Local kids are exploring their imaginations and the sciences for one incredible learning lesson.

Wednesday on the Good Morning Show, we introduced you to Bluford STEM Academy students who build, test, and run their own EV3 robots. The best part, they're combining fairy tales and fables with science.

It's all apart of their STEMology Night entitled Fairy Tales in STEMland.

Bluford students will show parents and community members how they can incorporate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with fairy tales and fables.

"In our science lab 5th grade students took their knowledge of thermal energy and insulators/conductors and built houses out of sticks," said Megan Copeland, who's in charge of the Energy Wise Team. "We tied this to the fairy tale The Three Little Pigs and also had the students build a house out of straw and Lego bricks. Students then were asked to test these houses to see if heat was escaping. Many of the students saw that the houses let out a large amount of heat very quickly."

The school also wants parents and other STEMology attendees to test the houses and to help find better ways to insulate them so that they're more energy efficient.

"We'll also ask parents to sign the "Do One Thing To Save Energy" campaign which ties to our Energy Wise initiative as a school to be more energy efficient," said Copeland.

But that's not all!

"The LEGO team programmed the EV3 robots to get Rapunzel out of the castle," explained Harold Chairs, one of Bluford's technology teachers.

Bluford STEM Academy's STEMology Night: Fairy Tales in STEMLand is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, Thursday, November 19, 2015. It's at the school which is located at 1901 Tuscaloosa Street in Greensboro.
