BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Governor Roy Cooper kicked off Small Business Week in Alamance County with a tour of Company Shops Market in downtown Burlington.

The grocery store is a co-op stocked with goods from local farmers and businesses.

Governor Cooper pointed out the struggle in opening a local grocery store downtown, but says this co-op is a good example of how small businesses can work together to become more sustainable.

"Here everybody wins," Governor Cooper explains.  'You've got the local jobs, you've got the food that you know is organic and good from here and you've got a grocery store downtown.

Governor Cooper wants to use this week to showcase successes and challenges of small businesess and wants the state to be able to encourage and help small business owners.  He says in his budget proposal he's put in more money to help small business owners find infrastructure and hopes the state can also help with loans and education.
