A pilot suffered non-life threatening injuries after a small aircraft crashed in Northampton County on Sunday.

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia State Police spokeswoman said the engine of a gyrocopter stopped running causing the aircraft to crash Sunday.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the pilot, 67-year-old Barry Maggio, had injuries that weren't life-threatening. Medics took him to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment.

Anaya said that emergency dispatchers received a call about the crash on Candy Lane in the Smith Beach area around 3:10 p.m.

The orange gyrocopter's engine cut off and caused the aircraft to drop quickly. It clipped a power line which got caught up in the gyrocopter's propeller. Anaya said it continued moving before it hit the ground in a field.
