KPD: Man stabbed his roommate to death for money

A 44-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after a man was found dead with stab wounds in his home, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

A Knoxville man is behind bars for stabbing his roommate to death for money, according to investigators.

Steven Simpson, 44, is charged with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery in the death of 50-year-old William Innes.

Another roommate found Innes dead on Friday afternoon in their apartment on Sevier Avenue in South Knoxville.

According to court documents, investigators believe Simpson, who had a drug habit, stabbed Innes multiple times with a knife, then took his wallet and cash. Police believe he left after the murder, taking the bloody knife and clothing with him.

Simpson was later arrested in the parking lot of a West Knoxville business He is being held in jail on a $150,000 bond.
