Firefighters put out huge condominium fire on Lawndale Dr. in Greensboro

A fire at Somerset Village temporarily closed a portion of Lawndale Drive in Greensboro. Officials say no one was injured.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Several families were displaced after firefighters put out a huge fire at a condominium complex in Greensboro Friday evening, according to police.

Greensboro police said it happened on the 5000 block of Lawndale Drive at Somerset Village Condominiums. Police said Lawndale Drive between Regents Park Lane and Cottage Place was temporarily closed in both directions, but the road has since reopened.

A spokesperson with Piedmont Natural Gas says they are on the scene with the Greensboro Fire Department as officials investigate the cause of this fire.

Officials said the gas line and the power have been cut off because they believe it might be a natural gas-fed fire.

Fire officials said no one was injured in this fire.

The condo has heavy damage to the third floor and the attic, according to officials. The Greensboro fire chief said there were more than 50 firefighters on the scene to take down the fire.

The American Red Cross is on the scene assisting people displaced by this fire.
