MEBANE, N.C. -- Hawfields Middle School is implementing some fitness into their classroom setting.

Alamance County Schools says two teachers at the middle school put in for a grant to Impact Alamance, a nonprofit organization, to get some cardio equipment into the classroom. The schools system did not know what class, or classes, will be taught in these fitness classrooms yet.

Steven Harvalias sells gym equipment and owns a gym. He said that he was contacted by the school to help out.

"Months ago I got a call from the school saying they were trying to get a grant and wanted to implement cardiovascular exercise in the teaching program for kids," Harvalias said. "They needed a lot of equipment on a very tight budget! I quickly said though that me and my crew will gladly do what we can to help free of charge and get them the most equipment we can for what they were working with."

Harvalias goes on to say that one classroom at Hawfields Middle School has 29 pieces of 'full commercial equipment.' As you can see from the above picture, that includes treadmills and stationary bikes.

Alamance County Schools says the school year starts on August 20 and they're hoping to implement fitness into the classroom with the acquired equipment by Labor Day.
