'We've Had a Lion Attack': The 911 Call Made After a Lion Killed a Conservators Center Worker Released

The one 911 call made after a lion killed 22-year-old Alexandra Black Sunday afternoon was released Tuesday by Caswell County officials.

WFMY News 2 obtained the 911 call made when 22-year-old Alexandra Black was attacked and killed by a lion at the Conservators Center.

Caswell County Manager Bryan Miller says an employee at the Conservators Center made the call, and there was only one 911 call made in reference to the attack.

The call lasts about 2 minutes.

The caller said "we've had a lion attack"

The 911 dispatcher asked "The person who was attacked, how bad are they hurt?"

"They are incapacitated," the caller said.

Some neighbors who live in the area enjoy hearing wild animals at night, but Jacqueline Navarro says it scares her now that she knows there was a fatal attack.

"I sometimes be scared and I have to take my grandchildren in the house because sometimes we're out here and we hear like something crawling, or the leaves cracking or a tree moving and so we run in the house cause we don’t know what it is, and it's very scary and now that this happened to this little girl, my heart really goes out to her family."

The Conservators Center in Caswell County says in a statement that the lion was shot and killed Sunday after it attacked the worker in an enclosure that was being cleaned.

The center says a "husbandry team" led by a professionally trained animal keeper was carrying out the routine cleaning when the lion somehow got loose.

The center says it wasn't immediately clear how the lion left the area that was supposed to be locked. The center says it will be closed until further notice.

The facility was founded in 1999 and is in Burlington, about 50 miles northwest of Raleigh.
