MEBANE, NC -- A Haw River man convicted of kidnapping an 11-year-old girl from a bus stop in Mebane and raping her is sentenced to 92 years in prison, according to a post from the Alamance County District Attorney's Office.
Greg Overman, 41, plead guilty to Statutory Rape of a Child by an Adult, Statutory Sex Offense with a Child by an Adult and First-Degree Kidnapping. Investigators say he abducted the girl from a bus stop in Mebane in October 2016 and raped her. The victim escaped after the assault but Overman wasn't arrested until months later after a DNA hit from the FBI.
Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway sentenced Overman to three consecutive sentences for the charges, totaling about 92 years in prison.
The District Attorney's office says Overman failed to show remorse in court. Prosecutor Brooks Stone read a letter from the victim's family, reading the crime "turned the family upside down."
