MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Surry County Sheriff's Office says a man was shot during an argument at a home in Mount Airy on Monday.
Deputies got an emergency call from an address on Kauffman Lane. When they arrived, they found Joseph Edward Barr with a single gunshot wound in the stomach.
Barr was taken to Wake Forest Baptist where he is in critical, but stable, condition.
Detectives say Barr and Ray Melvin Simpson Jr., 73, got into an argument, and Simpson shot Barr.
Simpson is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is in jail on a $75,000 secured bond.
