Murder Charge Filed After 67-Year-Old Found Dead at Greensboro Motel

Greensboro police say the death reported at the Sands Hotel is now a murder investigation.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police confirm the person found dead at an area motel was murdered. It's the city's first homicide of 2019.

Police were called to the Sands Hotel on Sands Drive Wednesday night after someone called 911 around 3:00 p.m. Once on the scene officers found a  man dead.

The man has been identified as 67-year-old Jerry Gauldin, of Ruffin, NC.

28-year-old Spencer James Pinekenstein, of Gastonia, is facing charges for: First Degree Murder, Robbery, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Identity Theft, Financial Card Theft, Obtaining Properyty by False Pretense and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

He's in the Guilford County Jail with no bond.
