Man Detained, Lockdown Lifted At NC A&T State University: Police

According to an alert posted by NC A&T, an armed man was seen running from Pride Hall to Aggie Stadium after threatening to shoot a female student but has since been detained.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A man has been detained following a report of an armed gunman at North Carolina A&T State University.

The man was taken into custody just after 3:00 p.m. Friday according to a campus alert.

According to the original alert to students, an armed man was seen running from Pride Hall to Aggie Stadium after threatening to shoot a female student. Police will not name him at this time.

An A&T staff member was the first one who learned about the threat and reported it.

The suspect ran away and campus police, Greensboro Police, the Sheriff's office, and even the FBI, tried to track him down for two hours while the campus remained on lockdown.

Most Doors on campus locked automatically.

Police say they found and detained him near the football stadium on foot.

The lockdown was lifted around 3:30 and students were allowed to leave buildings.

"Once we were able to identify the suspect and confirm that he was in fact the suspect, that led us to give the all-clear for the campus," Chief Wilson said. "He is not under arrest at this time."

He is detained and being questioned, but he's not in police custody because it's not yet known if he'll face any charges because police say they are having a hard time getting information from the victim in this case.

A&T Police said the man is not a student at the University, but is from Greensboro.

Bennett College was also placed on a lockdown as a precaution.

Police are still trying to piece this case together and investigating whether or not  the suspect knew the victim.
