NC Bill Would Let Colleges Sell Alcohol At Sporting Events

The bill heads to the North Carolina General Assembly next week.

RALEIGH, N.C. — You can grab some popcorn, a soda and maybe a pretzel if you're feeling up to it. All are staples at your favorite college sporting event. North Carolina lawmakers want to add something else to the concession stand, alcohol.

Lawmakers first discussed the bill last summer. Now it's getting an official introduction.

Representative John Bell and Senate Majority Whip Rick Gunn are sponsoring the bill. They presented it to the General Assembly on Monday.

The bill lets public universities sell beer and wine at venues on campus.

Bell tweeted about the bill last Thursday saying, "We've heard from law enforcement, administrators and student. [We] believe this is a positive step for safety and economic growth."
