NC Highway Patrol Trooper Saves Drowning Tuber Trapped In River

The woman, Lindsey Woolard, from Wilmington was drowning in the river after she became trapped under a log jam.

SWAIN COUNTY, N.C. -- A North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper saved a woman who was tubing in the Tuckasegee River near Bryson River.

Trooper J.T. Gibbs was on US 19 when he was flagged down by someone trying to get help. The woman, Lindsey Woolard, from Wilmington was drowning in the river after she became trapped under a log jam.

Gibbs got his swift water rescue gear with a life preserver and a rope to throw it to her. He then crawled onto the log jam where he put the life preserver around Woolard and with the help of others got her to safety.

Woolard was treated and released by EMS.
