Officer, Student Injured After Fights Break Out At High Point Andrews

A police officer and student were injured when a large fight broke out at High Point Andrews High School Friday afternoon, school officials said.

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A police officer and student were injured when a large fight broke out at High Point Andrews High School Friday afternoon, school officials said.

Nora Murray with Guilford County Schools says students were having a water balloon fight when some students got out of hand and started fighting. She says High Point Police were called to help break up some fights.

High Point Police said three people involved in the fights were arrested.

Murray says administration reported the smell of bleach in the water balloons.

It isn't clear how the officer or student were hurt, but Murray says it wasn't because of the water balloons or bleach.

High Point Andrews Principal David Miller released a statement, saying the students involved will be disciplined.

“The behavior of a large group of students on campus today was completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action will be taken. I am deeply disappointed , as this is not what we expect from our Red Raiders, the vast majority of whom come here every day ready and eager to learn. I also call on parents and the community to help us reinforce behavioral expectations for our young people," said Miller.
