Owners Unable to Remotely Lock, Unlock Doors or Start Cars After Fish Games Installed Anti-Cheating Device

Patrons from the restaurants would come out and they couldn't get them unlocked," said Lt. David Lamberth, with the Eden Police Department.

EDEN, N.C. — What do Fish, Gambling and a Mexican Restaurant have to do with your car?

Some people in Eden found out the hard way.

Eden Police say people at the El Parral Mexican restaurant have been having a hard time unlocking, locking, and even starting their cars over the last few weeks.

"The biggest thing was the key remotes for the vehicles. Patrons from the restaurants would come out and they couldn't get them unlocked," said Lt. David Lamberth, with the Eden Police Department.

Some people even had to have their cars towed, talk about an expensive meal.

After investigating, police found and removed several anti-cheating devices in the Fish Games next door to the restaurant.

Police believe these devices sent signals that prevented cheating but also messed with people's car remotes.

"For the past month and a half when I come out to my vehicle, press my button to get in my vehicle and unlock my doors, I can't...When I go to stick my key in the door, my alarm goes off it lights up the whole neighborhood," said Angela Fowler, who couldn't get into her car several times over the past few weeks.

Eden Police Lt. Lamberth said since the devices were removed, they haven't heard of anymore problems.

We tried unlocking his car today and it seemed to work just fine.

He said they're working with the FCC to see which, if any, laws may have been broken.
