The Rockingham County Schools' Facebook page says Bethany Elementary, Monroeton Elementary, Reidsville Middle and Reidsville High Schools will be closed for the rest of the day Thursday due to storm damage and power outages.

The school system says early-morning projections were that power would be restored by 8 a.m. Power wasn't restored by the time students got to school.

'Since this did not happen, we feel it is in the best interest and safety of students that we close these four schools for the day,' a status on the page read.

Rockingham County was hit hard by a thunderstorm that brought hail and high winds Wednesday night. Duke Energy's power outage map showed over 4,000 customers in Rockingham were without power at one point early Thursday.
