Published: Meet 7-Year-Old Author Logan Brooke Perkins of Rockingham County

Logan Brooke Perkins' paperback illustrated storybook, "A Word from the Caterpillar: I Don't Want to be Stuck in a Jar!!!!!," is available on Amazon.

WENTWORTH, N.C. (WFMY) – 7-year-old Logan Brooke Perkins loves reading, writing and animals.

"It's just fun to do," Logan shared in n interview with WFMY News 2.

She already knows that she wants to grow up to be an author and a veterinarian.

Logan is currently the talk of the school after publishing her first book at such a young age.

The 7-year-old’s story came from a 2nd grade experiment: She put herself in the shoes of some caterpillars her classmates observed in 2nd grade science class.

Then she wrote it down and even drew pictures to go with the words.

"I thought about what would happen if I were the caterpillar, I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a jar," Logan shared in an interview.

Now a 3rd-grader at Wentworth Elementary, Logan received quite the suggestion from her 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Jill Dix, after reading her work: she should publish her story.

"I encouraged her mom to please look at it and to do more with it," Dix said.

“When Logan brought her story home and showed her parents, Ashley and Scott, what good comments Mrs. Dix had written, Logan’s mom and dad were very pleased,” the Facebook post continues.

Luckily for Logan, her mother Ashley knew someone with experience in publishing and helped her make it all happen.

Her paperback illustrated storybook, “A Word from the Caterpillar: I Don't Want to be Stuck in a Jar!!!!!,” is now available on Amazon and has already sold over 100 copies.

According to her mother, the family hopes to have a copy donated to every Rockingham County elementary school, the first being Logan’s own, Wentworth Elementary School.

Eventually, Logan and her family hope each of the public libraries in the county to have a copy as well.

Another of Logan’s goals is to have three books published by age 10.
