Report of Shots Fired Near Guilford Co. Courthouse Prompts Lockdown: Police

Greensboro police say shots were fired outside of the courthouse in the parking lot near Washington and Eugene Streets.

GREENSBORO - The Guilford County courthouse was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after police were investigating reports that gunshots were fired nearby before a fight broke out.

Greensboro police believe shots were fired outside of the courthouse in the parking lot near Washington and Eugene Streets. Around 10:42 a.m., an officer behind police headquarters called in on the radio saying he heard shots. Several people called 911 reporting they also heard shots.

Within minutes of officers arriving on scene, a fight between three to five people broke out in front of the courthouse. Greensboro police and Guilford County deputies broke up the fight. It isn't known if the fight is related to the shooting.

No one was hurt. Police are detaining several people as part of the investigation. No arrests have been made.

The 300 block of W. Washington Street was closed between South Eugene Street and South Greene Street because of the investigation.
